The lead can then be locked into place by pushing up on the clear clip - once locked, you don't have to worry about the lead accidentally extending. Did we mention that you can also push down on the clip to extend lead? Life is amazing. 

Need to erase a blemish? Twist the top to extend the Tombow mono eraser to a usable length of .7 inches, and twist the other way when you're done to hide the eraser. Wow, we're in love.
